Joan joined Coady Institute in 2009, bringing more than 20 years of experience in the IT industry including online learning and project management.
At Coady, Joan helps us achieve our business goals through the effective use of technology. We serve a global audience and our teaching staff travel extensively. She has moved the entire application process online to a web-based mobile-friendly system which makes it easier for people to apply to our programs, and also allows our staff to review these applications from anywhere in the world.
Using a web-based school management software product, our Admissions Team now provides personalized communication with thousands of applicants while creating and maintaining a record of all their enrolments. After applicants are accepted and registered in programs, teaching staff have access to class lists and grading modules. Our database includes records for alumni dating back to 1960. Joan handled the implementation of this system and manages the ongoing maintenance, training, and liaison with the vendor.
Drawing on her experience working in other organizations, she also worked with staff to create an online course in microfinance, which provided data for management to make decisions about different ways of reaching students.
Joan holds an MBA from the University of Toronto and bachelors degrees in Journalism from Carleton University and Science from the University of Guelph. Inspired by her Coady colleagues who work in adult education, she continued her studies at the University of King’s College in Halifax, Canada's oldest chartered university, and graduated from the MFA program in 2016.
