About the Certificate

This certificate is an introduction to leadership for indigenous women. It will build on your strengths and experiences. The program content includes concepts such as self-empowerment, personal development, leadership models and skills, indigenous women’s experiences of power, cultural history, and strategies for indigenous community development.

As a result, you will gain the following:

  • Recognition of your role models and investigation of their leadership characteristics.
  • Exploration of the impact of different leadership models and styles.
  • Discovery of how you can influence and lead with personal power.
  • Identification of community issues and how you can apply leadership skills to make a positive change.
  • Examination of your most significant leadership experiences and lessons learned.
  • Identification of community strengths, resources, and assets, in order to build on them.

Program Eligibility

You are a good fit for this offering if you are:

  • An Indigenous woman from Alberta (First Nations from Treaty 6, 7 and 8 Territories as well as Métis or Inuit).
  • Concerned about community issues and ready to find solutions that will make positive differences.
  • Possess a drive and passion to discover leadership skills so that you can lead social change.

You will be expected to arrive with a community project in mind.

Certificate Details

This 5-day certificate is offered by Coady International Institute and hosted by the Enoch Cree Nation. You will be provided accommodation, ground transportation, meals, and class materials. You will receive a certificate upon completion. Participants will arrive on Sunday April 8th in the evening and depart on Saturday April 14th. Accommodation will be at the River Cree Resort in Enoch Cree Nation.

Application Details

The deadline for applications is March 12, 2018. As part of the application, you will be required to upload a resumé and maximum one-page statement of your interest, as well as contact details for two people who can provide references for you.
