Skillbuilding for Effective Communications
Learning Practical Media and Communications Skills
Getting the message out can be a challenge. Community organizations in many countries are becoming increasingly frustrated by commercial or government-run media which often distort or ignore their issues and concerns. This skill-building course aims to help participants develop skills in creating their own media to support their organization’s advocacy and education campaigns. The course will also explore the power of various audio-visual media to communicate development messages including still images, audio and video. Participants choosing this course are encouraged to combine it with the Communications for Development elective offered earlier in the program.

The 'iMovie Tutorial' button directly on the right will open a webpage with a Youtube player featuring a number of helpful iMovie video editing tutorials. Likewise, the FLIP camera and Garageband links will open webpages with similar tutorials. Once the tutorial page opens, simply click the large, central play button on the Youtube player to start playing the first tutorial. To see the others, simply rollover the player with your mouse pointer and a small ribbon will pop-up at the bottom of the player displaying the other recommended tutorials.
