Marine Protected Area Facilitator

Position Description:
- Assist with the finalizing and signing of the co-management agreement for SIOBMPA
- Assist partner NGOs with the implementation of policies and procedures
- Assist partner NGOs with the project development implementation of the plan
- Implement SusGren's biodiversity and sustainable livelihood actions in Carriacou
- Identify alternate livelihood options for the fishers in SIOBMPA
Qualifications:
- Background in natural resource management, environmental studies or marine/ coastal management
- Knowledge of environmental issues, conventions and protocol
- Knowledge of marine protected areas
- Knowledge of environmental and social issues
- Willingness to travel frequently in the Grenadines
- Strong research and writing skills
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills
Host Organization Details: SusGren is leading an environmental management plan with the Grenada Fisheries Division, Carriacou Environmental Committee (CEC) and Carriacou Historical Society (CHS) working along with the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Ports Authority, dive operators, the communities of Carriacou and international partner, The Nature Conservancy, for Carriacou, Sandy Island/Oyster Bed Area (SIOBMPA). In September of 2008 the Government of Grenada officially declared the area as an MPA.
The priority actions for SIOBMPA 2009-2010 are the implementation of the OECS-USAID SIOBMPA Biodiversity Project, designing a co-management arrangement for SIOBMPA, implementation of a GEF-SGP functioning of SIOBMPA and capacity development of stakeholder NGOs project and raising community awareness of the importance of the SIOBMPA.
As such, substantial work is necessary for the SIOBMPA and presently there is no one fully coordinating the above programs. The intern will assist with facilitating the processes among the key organizations in implementing the priority management plan actions for the SIOBMPA. The intern will assist in the coordination, networking and implementation of the plan.
