Eco-Tourism and Environmental Specialist

- Develop a tourism website for Antioquia
- Organize a local festival to promote tourism
- Conduct monitoring and evaluation of CIED's tourism projects
- Establish a local youth environmental group
Qualifications:
- Background in tourism, business or marketing
- Interest in agriculture, community development or eco-tourism
- Skills in facilitating youth groups
- Strong oral and written Spanish skills
- Strong communication and networking skills
Host Organization Details: CIED promotes local economic development as a key strategy to reduce poverty and increase family incomes within sustainable development plans in medium sized regions (watersheds, economic corridors.) CIED’s Lurin Program works with farmers’ associations, local municipalities and women micro entrepreneurs along the Lurin Valley near Lima city, with a sustainable regional development approach, in order to promote local economic development to create jobs and increase household incomes.
The intern will work with CIED on projects which aim to improve the socio-economic development of the Antioquia district of Peru through the generation and commercialization of eco-tourism in the area. The improvement in the management and market skills of male and female enterprise managers will strengthen the capacities of organizations and micro enterprises to work within the production chain in agro-industry and rural tourism. The intern will provide support to the “Colours for Antioquia” project which aims to strengthen the self esteem of the Espiritu Santo Community (capital of Antioquia) by beautifying the town by painting its facades with motifs that express some of the landscape and spirit of the people, and the Inca Trail Circuit project which has revived an old Inca trail (that connects the Cochahuayco and Espiritu Santo communities) for tourism purposes.
