The intern will work with faith-based organization BCC on the implementation and support of their Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) and Male Peer HIV/AIDS Awareness projects. The ASRH project aims to improve young people’s ability to make informed and healthy decisions about their sexual and reproductive health (SRH). With the full involvement of parents and community leaders, the partnership will have several overarching themes, including issues of positive gender relations, empowerment of girls, poverty and HIV prevention and associated stigma. YOHO (Youth Health Organization)
Botswana is faced with a high prevalence of HIV, especially among young people. National prevalence stands at 17.1% in a country where 70% of the population is aged below 29 (Youth by Botswana definition). National youth prevalence stands at 20.2% and for people aged 20 – 29, the average HIV prevalence is 33%. HIV prevalence among females in this age group is 67.2%, which is 35.2% higher than the rates seen in males of the same cohort. In response to the high rates of infection among young people and the disproportionally high rates among females, the Youth Health Organization (YOHO), in partnership with affiliated youth groups based in Gaborone, Ghanzi, Hukuntsi, and Letlhakane, are implementing the Scaling up HIV Prevention with Youth Program (SHPYP) toreverse this pattern. The program is implemented by affiliate groups with coordination and technical support from YOHO. It will aim for zero transmission lifestyles among youth aged 12 – 29. It is guided by the following strategic objectives:
- To create broad awareness and increase comprehensive knowledge of HIV and AIDS among 100% of in and out of school youth aged 12 to 29 years living in Gaborone, Ghanzi, Hukuntsi and Letlhakane areas to adopt key HIV prevention behaviors.
- To strengthen life skills of 50% of youth aged 12 to 29 years living in Gaborone, Ghanzi, Hukuntsi and Letlhakane to cope with HIV prevention challenges.

Making the Forest Sector Transparent project is working with civil society groups in forest-rich countries to engage with policy makers and advocate for capable, responsive and accountable forest sector governance. The project supports local environmental and human rights campaigners in up to eight countries to monitor transparency and to advocate on issues of importance to local communities.
The project is piloting a 'transparency report card' that will assess the level of public access to information on an annual basis. The report card takes a rights-based approach. It is both top-down, looking at the legal obligations each state has to enhance transparency and participation in decision making (including reference to the individual country Constitution, any Freedom of Information legislation, and any sector-specific laws), and bottom-up, working with forest-dependent communities to identify information needs order that communities can assert their rights, and hold duty-bearers (government and others) to account. Caritas’ Infant Stimulation project involves developing an infant stimulation program that is specific to the needs of isolated, rural communities in the Andean province of Junín. The projects goals include: to share knowledge from the practice of infant stimulation with partners in Peru, to collaborate with Peruvians who work in the field of infant stimulation and family education to clearly identify the primary developmental difficulties that need to be addressed, to collaborate with Peruvian early development workers to develop a program that is directed toward giving parents the knowledge and skills they need to foster optimal development in their children, to assess the program by working with a sample of families in the region, and to develop materials that can be used to disseminate the knowledge and the practice of the program that is jointly developed. The beneficiaries of the project include infants, their parents and families in rural Andean communities who are isolated from support for fostering development in their infants, some of who are at-risk for developmental delay. SusGren (Sustainable Grenadines Project)
SusGren is leading an environmental management plan with the Grenada Fisheries Division, Carriacou Environmental Committee (CEC) and Carriacou Historical Society (CHS) working along with the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Ports Authority, dive operators, the communities of Carriacou and international partner, The Nature Conservancy, for Carriacou, Sandy Island/Oyster Bed Area (SIOBMPA). In September of 2008 the Government of Grenada officially declared the area as a MPA.
The priority actions for SIOBMPA 2009-2010 are the implementation of the OECS-USAID SIOBMPA Biodiversity Project, designing a co-management arrangement for SIOBMPA, implementation of a GEF-SGP functioning of SIOBMPA and Capacity Development of stakeholder NGOs project and raising community awareness of the importance of the SIOBMPA.
As such, substantial work is necessary for the SIOBMPA and presently there is no one fully coordinating the above programmes. The intern will assist with facilitating the processes amongst the key organizations in implementing the priority management plan actions for the SIOBMPA. 3. conduct monitoring and evaluation of communications tools with partners organizations
4. support member organizations with the implementation of communications strategy
5. assist in development of cafan newsletter and publications
6. maintain cafan website in order to disseminate resource materials to relevant stakeholders
